Welcome to our Trek Program. This program is for our
pre-teens and teens in grades 7-12. It is a Christian based youth program that is part of the Awana Program. We meet on Sunday Nights from 5:30pm-7:30pm starting on October 15th, 2017. Our program is open to everybody in this age group.
Like most of our youth programs, they are centered around a single scripture verse or a passage of scripture and this program is no different. This program is centered around John 1:1 to 3 - 1 In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made.
The Apostle John received these words to write this book of the Bible by the Holy Spirit, who is God and John speaks here of Jesus as the "word" who was with God, our Heavenly Father and the "word" was God, God the Son. In these three verses here you see God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is the Trinity. When you look at the last verse, verse 3, "all things were made through him"...think about that, the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, the stars of the sky, our parents and ourselves, the animals, the trees and plants. None of these things would be possible without God.
Now I want to share a few things about our local club. We do have a dress code. You are coming to church, so please dress appropriately. You are entering God’s House. You will not wear jeans with holes in them. If you are going to wear shorts, they must at least go to the area of the knee and the same with a dress or skirt or skort. When wearing a shirt or top, it should cover the tummy and back as well as cover the shoulders. We realize that once you earn your uniform that this issue of shirts will not be an issue as it will take care of any issues listed. Now let us discuss the feet for a minute, we had enough incidents last year with foot injuries that we made the decision that all kids will wear some type of footwear: boots, sneakers, shoes … something to wear to protect the feet, flip flops don’t count. This dress code is the same dress code our leaders including our teen leaders have to go by in Awana on Fridays.
All teens will earn their own uniform shirt for club. This policy is for the safety of the kids as sometimes game time can get a little rough and tumble and our game floor is carpet, hence there can be rug burns, I know this one first hand.
Now, Some of these policies may seem pretty strict, but we want to have a fun and safe environment for all our teens. Some of the things we are going to do this year besides learning more about the Bible and how they can apply it to their daily lives, we are also going to have some fun activities too like Operation Christmas Child, Duct Tape Night, Grand Prix, Christmas Special Night, and other fun events throughout the year not on the calendar yet.
We will also have a time of snacks for everybody to enjoy. After all, at this time it is when the kids are typically having supper and we know they are going to be a little hungry. If your kids have any allergies that we should know about, please let us know and we will adjust for the whole group. We don't adjust for one kid, we adjust as if the whole group had the same allergy or food sensitivity. This way it is safe for all. All you have to do is let us know.
We look forward to a fun year. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a message and I will get back to you.
